McCall's 7162 in Taupe Crepe de Chine

I constructed this McCall's pattern, designed by Laura Ashley, #M7162 from a beautiful 100% silk in a crepe de chine weight. It's the exact same silk I made this top with but in a different color.

I am very shallow (?) across my chest between my collar bones and my boobs, so the top gapped horribly. I added two small bust darts to take in the extra and that solved the gapping issue without changing the look of the shirt. I was so proud of myself for solving the gap that I didn't realize it was going to be too long between the bust and the waist, so now it folds a bit more in the front and back than I would like it to. I think perhaps one day I will take out the zipper and take the bodice up about 3/4 of an inch in the waistline to get rid of the folds.

I added a bow in the back because I thought it needed an extra boost of cuteness, but also, honestly, because I could not get the top of my zipper to look neat and I didn't want to pick it out and destroy the silk more than I already had. The bow is sewn on permanently on one side and attaches with a small hook and eye on the other side.

I liked the option for the hi-low hem, but damn was it low in the back. I cut off 2.5 inches in the very back, taking off slightly less towards the front of the top.  I still think it's a bit long and next time I make it, I think I'll take 4 inches off the hem in the back and 1.5 inches off in the front.

Overall I think it's a really cute pattern and I haven't seen any others like it so I'll definitely give it another try.  The alterations that needed to be made were fairly simple, and if I were larger busted, may not have been needed, but I am always 1-2 sizes larger in the waist than I am in the bust.

Have you made this pattern? Did you have any fit issues? What fabric did you make it out of?

Thanks for reading, and if you're in the United States, have a lovely Thanksgiving!

Other details. Jeans by Max, shoes by BCBG from DSW, bracelet was a gift.
